3 Simple Baby Food Recipes
Red Pepper & Potato Purée
-half of a large red pepper
-1 medium white potato
Start by washing and peeling the potato and cutting it into small chunks. Steam the potato chunks for 10 minutes at medium/high heat. Rinse the red pepper and and de-seed it. Cut half of the pepper into small chunks and add it in with the potato chunks and steam for another 5-7 minutes. When that it done, let it cool slightly and put the pepper and potato chunks into a blender to purée it, add water from the steamer if needed.
The recipe that I used called for two peppers and one large pepper but I wasn't prepared for freezing food so I didn't want to make too much. Also I didn't realize that it called for two peppers not just one when until I got home. To steam the pepper and potato I used the steamer made by baby bullet, it worked great. You may have to adjust steaming time depending on what you are using. I tried it and I was surprised it wasn't bad at all, the only thing I would have done differently was use more pepper. The taste of the potato was a lot more noticeable then I was expecting, but it still wasn't bad and Logan loved it so that's the main thing!
Chicken, Carrot & Rice Baby Food
- medium carrot
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- two strips of chicken
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of chicken broth with low sodium
- 1/2 cup of rice
I started by boiling the strips of chicken, during that time I grated the carrot finely and measured out the rest of the ingredients. When the chicken was done I cut it up pretty small. Put the extra virgin olive oil and chicken chunks in a pot or frying pan. Stir for 5 minutes. Add carrot and stir for 1 minute. Add water and stock and then cover. When it comes to a boil add the rice, then cover and take off the burner. Let sit for about 15 or so minutes. When there is no water left in the pot. Depending on the age of your baby you may want to put it in the blender to make it a bit smoother.
Logan loved this one too! And surprisingly my daughter, who is the most picky eater ever tried it! I will definitely be making this one again, I definitely recommend trying it with your kiddos. The recipe I used included other veggies as well, I choose not to use them but you can if you want.
Star Pasta & Tomato Meat Sauce
- star pasta
- tomato sauce (w/ ground beef)
Put some water in a pot, bring it to a boil on the stove. Pour in the amount of pasta that you want. When it is done, strain it and and lit it cool a bit. I used a pasta sauce that I bought at my local grocery store, it is just tomato with a little bit of ground beef. You could also look up recipes on line to make your own sauce.
I added more sauce to the noodles before I fed it to Logan, this one he loved and so did Chloe! This one is probably the easiest if the three, it isn't much of a recipe. I originally was going to make my own pasta sauce but I had to work and didn't have time.
